Charter Insurance Brokers Ltd (‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’) is an independent insurance broker authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, Firm Reference 306405, Company Registration Number 4588908. We are the data controller responsible for your personal data. Our registered office is 1 Cardale Park, Beckwith Head Road, Harrogate, HG3 1RY.
2. Information we collect
We only collect information we need to arrange and service your insurance. Depending on how you interact with us, that may include:
- Contact details: your name, business name, email, phone number and address.
- Risk information: details about your business, property, vehicles, employees or activities needed to obtain quotes.
- Policy & claims history: your current and previous cover, and any claims made.
- Website data: basic technical information such as your IP address and pages visited, via cookies.
3. How we use your information
We use your data to source quotes from insurers, arrange and administer your policies, handle claims on your behalf, meet our regulatory obligations, and, where you’ve agreed, keep you informed about renewals and relevant services. We will never sell your data.
4. Our legal basis
We process your information on the basis of contract, to arrange the cover you ask for, legal obligation, to meet FCA and other requirements, and legitimate interests, to run our business and keep you protected. Where we rely on consent, for example marketing emails, you can withdraw it at any time.
5. Who we share it with
To arrange your cover we share information with insurers, underwriters and other parties in the insurance chain, including premium finance providers and claims handlers. We may also share data with our regulators and, where legally required, with law enforcement. All partners are required to keep your data secure and use it only for the agreed purpose.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you are a client and for a period afterwards to meet legal, regulatory and tax requirements, typically seven years from the end of our relationship, though some records may be held longer where the law requires.
7. Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict its use, and to request a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
